Drivers for FAX Automation
Financial institutions are faced with two major,
costly, and time- consuming problems:
Messaging Problem
A broad array of possible message formats with
radically different inherent automation possibilities gives the
large international financial institution a messaging challenge
of significant proportions. Each category of Incoming messages
have different handling needs, even under perfectly "clean" (meaning
the message contained no errors) conditions.
Scale of the Problem
SWIFT has published figures that show about two thirds of all
SWIFT messages contain at least one problem that prevents the
message being processed without human intervention, and that about
a fifth contain two or more such violations. In the completely
unstructured worlds of telex, fax and e-mail, there are no equivalent
published figures, intuitive and empirical observation however,
would indicate that there a significant proportion of these messages
having to be manually processed. The operational pressures on
exception processing staff have never been greater.
